Meet Bear – 341 viewsBear was the resident guard dog at the Brewerton Boat Yard where we had our service done on the MemoryMaker. Throw his 2x4 into the water and he didn't seem to mind it being cold. He'd retrieve it barking the whole way and bark for you to throw it out again.
Brewerton House on the River – 375 viewsAs you enter the canal off the Oneida River, you see this quaint old house on the river...really is sitting on the river.
Bridges – 381 viewsLots of bridges across the canal. All of the bridges all numbered consecutively. They paint the number on the bridge. It sure makes its easier to follow the charts, when you can look up the bridge by number. We also noticed that along the canal shoreline, you see sometimes painted on trees or concrete pillars the adjacent marker number. Because the Erie freezes over, they pull out the markers in the winter. Then in the spring they know where to put them back in the water, by following the landmark.
Bypass Spillway of a lock – 406 viewsBeside each of the locks, you see what looks like a waterfall. It's the spill off from the lock.
Canada Over There – 388 viewsAt the Oswego Marina, where we're docked you can see the passageway out into Lake Ontario. It's a 55 mile run into Kingston, Canada from permitting....
Christmas on the Erie Canal – 356 viewsNo, it's not Christmas, it's May...but it sure looked like Christmas here at this restuarant in Utica, NY.
Commercial buildings – 364 viewsWe saw some commerical activity...but not much, mostly just beautiful scenery.
Crab apple trees – 315 viewsLike lots of other flowering trees, the crab apple trees were in bloom
Lock wall – 407 viewsCruddy, grubby, scummy, just plain yucky...
Docked at the State Dock in Brewerton – 425 viewsFree tie-up - no electricity, but a close walk into downtown Brewerton. Found an unsecured wireless access point at the dock.
Docked at Fulton Canal Park – 441 viewsThere's only 3 boat here...MemoryMaker, Ruff-N-It, and Mary Won II. It is like having our own private marina...Such a lovely little town.
Docked at Kitty's on the Canal – 428 viewsKitty's is in Utica, NY. It was a free tie-up with free electricity. A short walk from the marina, there was lots of restuarants....
