Ferry on the Illinois – 414 viewsWe have seen several ferry boats in operation on the Illinois River.
Henry Harbor – 391 viewsTook a break, had some lunch, fueled, walked into town...cute little place.
Passing big tow – 398 viewsHere it was easier, because the water was wider. Some areas there's barely room for the tow.
Barges along the Illinois – 364 viewsThe only real picturesque thing here is the calm glassy water. We have seen lots of commerical barges along the way.
15 barges being pushed by one Tow boat – 409 viewsThey push them 3 wide 5 deep...but they all won't fit in a 110' X 600' lock at one time.
Obstacle Course – 485 viewsAfter we left Chicago, the channel got narrow and it was virtually impossible to pass tows.
Channel Blocked – 450 viewsWhen we approached this area, a barge had broken loose and was laying crossway across the channel. Nothing could get through. We had to wait around for a while until a tow boat shoved it out of the way.
Dead fish – 515 viewsWhen we entered locks on the Illinois River, the're been a lot of large dead fish floating. One of the lockmasters said the fish were dying from too little water and too much heat.
Docked At Spring Brook – 688 viewsLeaving out of the marina in Seneca Illinois. Spring Brook was a big Carver dealer...we were glad to find the spot the night before (at dark).
Geese – 449 viewsLots of neat wildlife. Even though we have seen floating dead fish, we have also seen lots of herons, geese and "flipping" fish. We were told they are catching some really large fish out of the river.
Barge being filled – 479 viewsYou see lots of this type of activity on the Illinois River.
Henry Illinois – 425 viewsThere used to be a lock here. Now they have the fuel and pumpout station for the Henry Harbor located on the rock wall.
